Rancho Outreach Efforts
Over the past several years, Rancho has made a concerted effort to increase our outreach efforts to all segments of the population – especially Novato’s growing Latino population. As a result our outreach plan includes: 1 Sending letters announcing our enrollment procedures (in English and Spanish), tours, and lottery information to Novato pre-schools and Novato Youth Center. 2 Sending announcement to the Novato Advance and Marin IJ announcing Kindergarten Lottery date and procedures. 3 Listing tours in the Novato Advance School Happenings section. 4 Posting enrollment procedures, tour schedule, and lottery information (in English and Spanish) on the Literacy Mobile Bookmobile. 5 Translating enrollment procedures and surveys into Spanish. 6 Conducting Spanish only tours and providing Spanish interpreter/translators on all tours provided requests are made in advance. 7 Providing a Spanish interpreter/translator at the Kindergarten Lottery. 8 Joining the DELAC Committee - Rancho Principal and Bi-Lingual Spanish speaking PTA President attend meetings. 9 Varying the offering of school tour times from early morning to late morning and afternoon. Evening tours are not available as we feel it is important for those touring to see the school in operation. We have contemplated creating a video tour, but again feel this wouldn’t provide the experience for a live tour. 10 Posting enrollment, tour and lottery information on NUSD and Rancho’s website in English and Spanish 11 Attending the NUSD Kindergarten Faire in the fall and the NUSD Kindergarten registration day in February. 12 Posting enrollment procedures, tour schedule, and lottery information (in English and Spanish) at the Novato Human Needs Center and the Latino Services business on Grant Ave.
We have also sent multiple press releases announcing our school tour and lottery to both the Novato Advance and Marin IJ.
