For Immediate Release: Rancho Elementary celebrates the diverse cultures represented in the Rancho community and across the globe as part of their annual multicultural program Passport Around The World!
Rancho students are embarking on a unique world tour complete with their own passports to celebrate this 7th annual multicultural event. This popular month long enrichment program gives students a wealth of opportunities to celebrate the many different cultures that are represented by Rancho students and others around the world. One of this year’s highlights will be an individual passport program that gives students an official country stamp as they ‘visit’ over 25 different countries during the culminating assembly on March 6th. For this event, the multipurpose room will be transformed into a spectacular global presentation of life in other countries. All students will have the opportunity to enjoy this comprehensive display of artifacts, maps, flags, photos and their own personal artwork. During the assembly, we will have a special student guest from the Marin School of Arts who will be acting as tour guide reporting fun facts to the Rancho students. Volunteer parents will be dressed in traditional clothing and also providing students with information at each country booth.
In addition to the assembly, students will be learning about other countries and cultures in many ways. Rancho students are visiting the school library to check out a wealth of specially selected multicultural titles as part of the traditional multicultural reading program. Students who complete a reading log with such titles will be awarded an Eagle Card, a school wide symbol of recognition for exemplary behavior. They will have the opportunity to participate in special art projects relating to a country of their choice such as a unique drawing or creating a flag. On the day of the assembly, students will present their own diverse ethnic backgrounds by spending the day dressed in traditional costume from the country of their origin or one of their favorite cultures.
Parents and members of the community are encouraged to join in our celebration. The multipurpose room will be open during and after school on March 6th to allow families and other members of the community to share this wonderful experience.
