Rancho Classroom Enrichment Programs

Rancho continues to keep art education a part of our enrichment program.

Starting in February, our 1st-4th graders will participate in a wonderful new multicultural music and dance program through Young Imaginations. This eight week program will further enhance their learning opportunities by developing knowledge, skills and appreciation of art as it is integrated into their core curriculum.

   Academic Coach

A large part of the success of our new Academic Coach Enrichment Program can be attributed to finding the right person to fill this new role. Rancho was lucky to find the perfect fit right in the Rancho community with Catherine Nam. Many of you may know Catherine already. She has two children enrolled at Rancho. Catherine taught at White Hill Middle School in Fairfax as well as at Quimby Oak in San Jose. She also has previous experience teaching Kindergarten and 1st grade. She has an extensive background as a math mentor, served on the math leadership team, and trained all district teachers in Algebra while at White Hill. Catherine also worked as a reader/scorer for a countywide writing task force and taught GATE classes. Catherine has her BA in psychology from UC Santa Cruz and her teaching credential from San Francisco State.

  Young Imaginations

Young Imaginations (YI), a non-profit agency founded in 1987, provides multicultural music and dance classes for approximately 10,000 children annually in San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma and East Bay schools. Their programs allow the integration of arts education into the core curriculum, strengthening language and math learning through innovative approaches that are aligned with mandated state standards and the requirements of standardized testing. A strong arts program can lead to increased student motivation and achievement across the curriculum and to a lifelong love of learning. 1st - 4th graders will be participating in an 8 week multicultural music and dance class starting in February.

  Youth In Arts

Youth In Arts is a local organization founded in 1970 by representatives from local art organizations concerned about diminishing resources for arts education. They provide a program that allows children the opportunity to experience Visual Arts, Dance, Drama and Music programs taught by practicing artists who are experienced in the classroom. This diverse group of artists works with schools, principals, teachers and students to provide a comprehensive residency program supplementing the current arts education opportunities available at participating schools. Rancho students participate in a nine week course that includes:

5th Grade - Cartoon Drawing

  Pillars of Character Program

The Rancho Pillars of Character program officially begins October 1st. Each month, we will introduce one "character word" to our students. The word will be highlighted in the Friday Flash, on the marquee, on the Rancho website, as well as displayed on a banner outside the multi use room. Mrs. Adams will also discuss the character trait during the flag ceremony on the first Friday of each month. In addition, each teacher will also receive a booklist that will contain the titles of books that pertain to each of the character traits.
